Science, Policy & Communication: The role of science in a changing world

This year’s MT AWRA Conference will meet at the Best Western Premier Great Northern Hotel in Helena, MT for the 34rd Annual Montana AWRA Conference on October 19-20, 2017! The keynote speaker this year is Dr Robert Lackey a professor of fisheries science at Oregon State University.  This year, AWRA is offering a Communication Workshop (Weds Morning, October 18th (10am-12pm), before the Field Trip) which will be lead by Dr. Susan Gilbertz  from MSU Billings. The workshop will be geared towards offering techniques to help scientists  improve the way they communicate with the public. More details about the workshop will be announced closer to the conference.  And, as always, a pre-conference field trip will be held in the Helena area on Wednesday, October 18th (1pm-5pm).       We invite presentations on all aspects of the science and management of Montana’s water resources. Suggested abstract topics include:

      • Aquatic invasive species
      • Riparian protection and restoration
      • Geomorphology
      • Aquifer recharge and water reuse studies
      • Watershed studies and management
      • Irrigation, water storage, and river regulation
      • Surface Water and groundwater interaction
      • Drought, drought resiliency, or drought management
      • Water quality
      • Snow Science and glaciology
      • Geochemistry
      • Student presentations are encouraged!

      2017 Photo Contest

      Once again, it is the time of year where we ask you for your latest and greatest water resources photos! We are looking for any and all photos related to Montana’s water resources and water resource professionals. These can be scenic photos, technical photos, recreational photos, or humorous and embarrassing photos! There will be prizes for the winners of each photo category.       Montana AWRA 2017-2018 Treasurer Nominations

      Time for nominating our next treasurer! The elected treasurer serves the AWRA Board for three years. The first year as Treasurer, the next year as Vice President, and the third year as President. Serving as a MT AWRA officer is a great way to get more involved in the community of water professionals in Montana and the U.S. Other benefits include membership in the National AWRA and paid MT AWRA conference expenses.
