2017 Annual Conference

Science, Policy & Communication: The role of science in a changing world

This year’s MT AWRA Conference will meet at the Best Western Premier Great Northern Hotel in Helena, MT for the 34rd Annual Montana AWRA Conference on October 19-20, 2017! The keynote speaker this year is Dr Robert Lackey a professor of fisheries science at Oregon State University.  This year, AWRA is offering a Communication Workshop (Weds Morning, October 18th (10am-12pm), before the Field Trip) which will be lead by Dr. Susan Gilbertz  from MSU Billings. The workshop will be geared towards offering techniques to help scientists  improve the way they communicate with the public. More details about the workshop will be announced closer to the conference.  The pre-conference field trip will head to the Canyon Ferry Dam area on Wednesday, October 18th (1pm-5pm). The field trip includes a dam tour, discussions on the history, current management, future predictions of the reservoir, and Aquatic Invasive Species. We hope to see you there!

Hydrophile Fun Run
This year the Hydophile 5K fun run/walk will be a little different. First the run will be all on singletrack trail and secondly it involves a shuttle. The shuttle leaves the Great Northern parking lot (same location as the field trip bus drop off) at 5:40 p.m., a second pick up will be at the federal building  located at 301 S. Park Ave at 5:50 p.m. and the run drop off location will be at Arastra Gulch Road at 6 p.m.  The run will be held on the Waterline trail back to town (Map).  A unofficial post race gathering will be held at the Blackfoot Brewery. Non-runners are encourage to cheer on runners at the finish line and meet at the brewery.

Consider carpooling to the federal building pickup location
Extra clothes and any other items can be arranged to be at the finish line

2017 Photo Contest

Once again, it is the time of year where we ask you for your latest and greatest water resources photos! We are looking for any and all photos related to Montana’s water resources and water resource professionals. These can be scenic photos, technical photos, recreational photos, or humorous and embarrassing photos! There will be prizes for the winners of each photo category. Please send your latest and greatest water resources photos to Emilie at eerichhoffman@mt.gov, or call me at 444-6740. If possible, please submit photos by September 15th, although late entries may be accepted!

Montana AWRA 2017-2018 Treasurer Nominations

Time for nominating our next treasurer! The elected treasurer serves the AWRA Board for three years. The first year as Treasurer, the next year as Vice President, and the third year as President. Serving as a MT AWRA officer is a great way to get more involved in the community of water professionals in Montana and the U.S. Other benefits include membership in the National AWRA and paid MT AWRA conference expenses. Nominations can be entered on the conference registration form or emailed to the Montana AWRA Executive Secretary, Nancy Hystad at nancy.hystad@montana.edu.

For conference rates at Great Northern  please be sure to mention American Water Resources when making your reservations. Limited conference rates have been provided for Wednesday and Thursday nights.
